Privacy Policy

The Short Version
We collect what we need to match your teammates for chats. We don't sell your data. We don't track you around the internet. If you cancel, we delete your data.
What We Collect
From Slack
When you install Tavern, we access:
- Workspace ID — To identify your organization
- Channel membership — To know who's in matching-enabled channels
- User IDs and display names — To create and announce pairings
We do NOT read your messages. We only send messages to announce pairings and respond to commands.
User Preferences
We store preferences team members set within Tavern:
- Opt-in/opt-out status for matching
- "Prefer not to match with" lists (private to each user)
- Pairing history (to avoid repeat matches)
Payment Information
Polar handles all payment processing. We receive your email address and subscription status from Polar, but never see your credit card details. See Polar's Privacy Policy for how they handle payment data.
How We Use Your Data
- Matching — Creating fair, interesting teammate pairings
- Communication — Announcing matches, responding to commands
- Billing - Managing your subscription
- Support — Helping when something goes wrong
What We Don't Do
- Sell your data to anyone
- Use your data for advertising
- Track you across other websites
- Read your Slack messages
- Share individual-level data with your employer
Data Storage
Your data is stored on servers in the United States (AWS). We use encryption in transit and at rest.
Data Retention
- Active subscription — We keep your data while you're a customer
- After cancellation — We delete your workspace data within 30 days
- Backups — May persist up to 35 days in encrypted backups
Your Rights
You can:
- Access — Ask what data we have about you
- Delete - Request deletion of your data
- Export — Get a copy of your data
Reach out for any data requests. We'll respond within 30 days.
Third Parties
We use these services:
- Slack — To provide the app (you authorized this when installing)
- Polar — Payment processing
- AWS — Hosting and storage
- Cloudflare — Website hosting
We don't share your data with anyone else.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as Tavern evolves. We'll notify subscribers of significant changes (data collection, sharing, or retention practices) via Slack or email.
